27 weeks

Here I am at 27 weeks...only 91 days to go. I can't believe that seems so close. And I really doubt I'll be making it to 40 weeks, which is fine with me. Once this cerclage comes out I think I'll be ready to go! This week has been interesting. I have been having some Braxton Hicks contractions all week, starting on Monday. They are pretty random and don't hurt at all but I'm keeping track because I need to call the doctor if I get 4 or more in an hour. The most I've had is 3 in an hour, but it usually seems to be just about 1 an hour, so it's not too bad. At this point in pregnancy, they're pretty normal so I'm not too worried, but we'll see what my cervix looks like on Friday. I'm guessing they're just going to keep coming and will get more frequent and stronger and that scares me a little, but I'm sure it will be just fine.

I had an appointment with the CNM on Wednesday and it was not good at all. I was very unhappy, but everything is fine. I won't go into details, but let's just say I don't think she had much experience with cerclages. She ended up doing 3 LONG exams on me, 2 with a speculum (think long and painful pap smear) and 1 manual! She basically said she was having a hard time 'visualizing my cerclage'. Then she has the nerve to tell me that she probably irritated my cervix and I may have some spotting. Thank God I haven't had any because it would definitely freak me out. Needless to say, I won't be seeing her again. I have a peri appointment this Friday and then I'm going to try and stretch it out until my OB gets back from vacation, which will be 2 weeks after that appointment.

I also took at huge step last weekend and purchased a co-sleeper. I have planned to buy one all along and they retail for around $190 or so. I had been stalking craigslist and found one for only $60 in great condition, so I just did it. It was scary to make a big purchase but I'm doing ok with it.

Here's my 27 week picture:

So after taking this photo I realized a few things. First, my belly is a lot bigger than I thought it was. At this point I've only gained 11 lbs. so I don't understand how I'm so huge! Second, my maternity tank tops are getting too small. Looks I'm going to need to buy some new clothes. :)

  1. I'm sorry your appointment with the CNM was so awful. There's a reason they put the N before the M, that's for sure!

Hooray for 27 weeks! You're doing so well :) And you look lovely, as always.

  2. You look great, Jenell! Congrats on hitting 27 weeks. Hopefully the next 13 or so go by quickly and healthfully.

  3. Just wanted to stop by and let you know there are three butterflies on my site for your girls. Click on Parade of Butterflies. You look great! Congrats on 27 weeks!

  4. Keep up the great work, embrace yourself with all that brings you peace.

  5. you look SO beautiful! i lost 17 pounds when i was pregnant and had an 8 lb. baby! yes i was overweight to begin with but don't worry about the weight... you are doing great! love love love

  6. Jenell, if that ever happens again and you're feeling that the exam isn't going right, ask them to stop. I think patients (me included) are often too compliant when we need to remember we're the ones in charge of our health. When pricking me for a vein for an IV they will really hurt so now I've learned to ask for someone else after 2 trys. They are always willing and it seems that the next person gets in on the first try. At this point, if you feel that any exam is risking early labor, be pro-active and say "stop!"
RN's do not have the same expertise as Drs. do.
Praying every step of the way with you and Rob!

  9. 27 weeks!! That is so exciting!! I am so glad to hear you are starting to buy things for your little man too, he'll be here before you know it!!! LOVE the picture, you are so funny, you look just as beautiful as always and you are not huge at all!!! Cute little belly :)

  10. how awesome to have to purchase new maternity clothes cause you are getting too big! what a joy and a blessing!
please, please, please, double your intake of water! seriously. i was pregnant with twins (after trying for 18 years to have a baby) and at 5 months started having braxtons... doubled my water (i was drinking 10 of the large sport top bottles of arrowhead daily). about all i did was drink and pee... but damned if that simple step didn't stop the contractions cold! i know your case is much more complicated, but just in case, make sure you are drinking a TON of water. the longer that little boy is in there, the better. i'm betting you make it almost 40 weeks!!! you are doing a great job, mom!!!! xxoo

  11. OMG! You look like a baby yourself. You have the face of a teenager! You look wonderful in any case. These weeks are flying by aren't they? What is the baby's name? You continue to take care of you and I think I can say for certain that we all will continue praying for a safe and healthy delivery...just around the corner.

  12. looking good lovely! miss you guys :)
